Excellent presentation I have high hopes your group will succeed (Blog Admin - text removed).
The best way to change Fletcher & Co minds is to ensure that voters are constantly reminded of how they voted on this issue.

Why did none of the opposition Councillors propose an alternative budget? Are you asking this? Are you asking what impact the Tories proposed 2.9% tax rise would have had on schools?
Get real people!

I think it ts you that needs to get real . This council have moved to the right of maggie thatcher with this policy. you call you call yourselves socialists but you should be ashamed of introducing this policy. The complete disregard for the saftey of the children also sticks in the craw (no risk assesment )and once again this is about the decision to charge children for thier education. not the labour councils inability to manage a budget

I agree with the person questioning the value of this service.
The Conservatives just vote against all Labour policies. That's not new.
Why should everybody have to pay in ER for a service that no-one else in the country has?
What's wrong with walking your kids to school?

The only council in scotland who would charge for kids to go on a school bus are the labour council of east renfrewshire .Exactly who were you agreeing with?.The reason everybody should pay for services received by some people displays a lack of knowledge of how council funding and service provision works (do you work for the education dept?)No one recieves all the services paid for from the public purse however we each at various points in our life we use different services. This arguement would apply equally to provision for the umemployed or elderly as well as school provision at all. This arguement has been put forward a few times by senior council workers which is alarming when someone in that position manages to fundamentally misunderstand what is being paid for and by whom.Whats wrong with walking kids to school ,nothing if like in the old day's mum didn't work and the school was 5 minutes away, Unfortunately the modern world has moved away from these old ideas,Get real, would you!!. The walking bus scheme piloted by ER Council is a disaster in practice, although its politically good for yaking about. As for the tories ,the policy is too right wing for most of them .Get real

Walking to school is fine for some people. No-one has ever said otherwise on this blogspot as far as I have read. The point is that a free service is being removed and charged for unreasonably. I don't have children and I am not an OAP. In fact I am quite comfortable and happy yet I don't mind one bit paying tax for sensible services (especially for children, the elderly and health care incidentally) with the expectation that myself or someone I care about might need them one day. Whoever was complaining about footing the bill for school buses without getting direct use from them wants to question their entire understanding of the way this country (and local council) work.
